Presented by Launch DFW, IgniteDFW is a volunteer-run event at the intersection of TED talks, Saturday Night Live, and that really cool block party you went to that one night.
What is Ignite?
Ignite is a community speaker series where individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds speak on diverse subject matters. (Yes, there is a Wikipedia page.) It started in Seattle and has spread to 350+ organizing teams. Dallas/Fort Worth is proud to produce IgniteDFW.
What’s the format?
Each speaker is granted 5 minutes of stage time. (Heckling encouraged.) But, here’s the kicker: 20 slide maximum. On auto-advance. 15 seconds per slide. (Now you understand the heckling.)
What is the event like?
Speakers are encouraged to speak from the heart. Each speaker applies and is selected to speak on a subject matter on which they are passionate. To note: This is not a pitch event. Speakers are not allowed to pitch their business or themselves. (Interested in speaking? Apply here.)
What does my ticket get me?
A seat. (Duh.) Once inside, you will have access to alcoholic beverages (for purchase). Some yummies. And anything that we can get away with giving from our local sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact us. If you’d like to volunteer and recruit sponsors to join our events, please see our volunteers page for more details.
What’s the history of Ignite?
Ignite Talks is a national speaking series platform with the first Ignite event taking place in Seattle, WA (2006). Each event has followed the same format: 14 speakers. 5 minutes per speaker. 20 slides each. 15 seconds per slide. Auto-advancing. It’s up to the community to bring the variety and showcase their passionate personalities.
The Ignite speaker series was brought to DFW in 2015 and was established as a quarterly event to inspire community members to celebrate, talk about, and live their inner geeky passions. We aspire to provide a platform for all community members to teach the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area something that they are passionate about.
